Scott Daniel Ellison

Scott Daniel Ellison is an American painter based in the Hudson Valley, in New York State

His paintings depict obscured narratives with child-like fervour and imagination, driven by strange yet endearing characters that linger on the edge of becoming. His is a world of goblins, trolls, witches and forest creatures - often hiding in the shadows yet with tender vulnerability.

Their ghost-like presence speaks to the materialisation of memory, both personal memories of the artist and the collective memory of myths and ancient epics, of bedtime stories and campfire tales. Friendly faces with ambiguous intentions are given precedence, created with care, and made accessible.

His simple style combined with complex layering makes these characters iconic, so much so that Ellison was selected as a featured artist by luxury French label Celine, emblazoning his creatures throughout the "Cosmic Cruiser" menswear collection 2021. You can also find his work on the album art of many Marionette record label releases.

Ellison has exhibited extensively throughout the United States, in Stockholm and now Australia. He's been awarded several fellowships including the esteemed "Fellowship in Painting" by the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. His work is held internationally in private collections.
