Ursula Mommens

Ursula Mommens, born 1908, was the great, great-granddaughter of Josiah Wedgwood and the great-granddaughter of Charles Darwin. She started potting in 1922 and studied at the Royal College of Art, under William Staite Murray. Her first pottery was in Kent, but after her marriage to Julian Trevelyan in 1935 she moved to London. After the unfortunate destruction of her kiln by the Luftwaffe Ursula worked with Cardew at both Winchcombe and Wenford Bridge. In 1960 she moved to South Heighton, Newhaven, Sussex. Her work is sometimes in porcelain but mainly stoneware, using wood ash glazes. Ursula Mommens lived to the age of 101. Her work has become highly collectable.
